What Christmas might mean to a Meditator

I sometimes get asked what Christmas means to me as a practising Buddhist
I usually respond by saying that I see it as one of our major cultural events on the annual calendar and I celebrate and support it as a time when people and families come together in a spirit of love and generosity.

But we all know it can easily veer into mindless consumerism and over-eating and drinking.

I find the ‘Westfield Shopping Madness’ a little nauseating to be honest and so this year I bought nearly of my gifts from Bodhi Books and Gifts in Newtown so that in addition to buying from fair trade producers I’d also be supporting a Buddhist livelihood that struggles to stay afloat.

And nearly all of my gifts were for children as I think they should really be the major players at Christmas time …….

And then there’s the opportunity to stay really clear and emotionally free and light amidst the indulgence of ‘Silly Season’ by staying in contact with your meditation practice. One can be a true individual and make a point of navigating your way through this time by honouring what is deeply true and valuable for oneself and this can be done by being very out-turned, joyful and connected to others; in no way a ‘Christmas Wowser’

So ………. on that note it is with pleasure that I invite you to meditation this thursday night as usual

Thursday      7 - 8.30 pm
Sunday        8 - 8.50 am

Much Metta
Dharmalata and Padmadakini
