‘But when we go deeper we realise that, however positive, uplifted, and connected our mind is, there’s always something getting in the way. Let’s say we’re focussing on the breath in meditation. Let’s say we’re absorbed in the physical sensations of breathing and finding it really pleasurable. Suddenly we think ‘Wow, this is going well!’ And immediately it’s gone. We’re back in our everyday mind. Or perhaps we’re at a concert being carried away by the beauty of the music except that every so often a little voice in our head says ‘Oh this is wonderful!’ and ‘This is lovely!’ - and every time that voice speaks, we’re pushed out of the music and back into the me-me-me. In other words , as we go deeper into life we start to realise that self is getting in the way, and for the full majesty of life to dawn upon us ‘self’ must die.’
