To really help someone

Lokeshvara, one of the two International Convenors of the Buddhist Order I belong to gave a talk at the Sydney Buddhist Centre on Saturday just past. Amongst other things he talked about how we help each other. The main point I took away from this was that to really help someone is a complex task requiring great wisdom.

And I agreed with this. To really know what another person needs rather than imposing our own projections onto them is a gentle art requiring patience and really good listening skills. Both of these are qualities I need to develop a lot more.

And, of course, meditation is a very good support to assist me. To learn to hold the space between myself and someone else is quite a lot like the quality of being present in meditation; openness and receptivity combined with generosity and clear intention. Watching what arises without rushing in to draw conclusions and fix things. Letting a situation speak to us without us smearing it with our own preconceptions and biases.

I hope you can join us for meditation this week:

Thursday     7 - 8.30 pm
Sunay          8 - 8.50 am

Much metta
Dharmalata and Padmadakini
