Adhisthana is dedicated to teaching Sangharakshita’s presentation of the Dharma, faithful to the Buddha’s own teachings and honouring the best in all schools. In addition to running study retreats and colloquia for Order members, there are plans to provide 5-month Dharma study and training courses primarily aimed at young women and men under the age of 40 who are either mitras or mitras training for Ordination.
The first of these courses is for women and is ready to run from February to June 2014. There will follow a course for men, running from 1st September 2014 to the end of January 2015, and we are looking for expressions of interest from potential participants. The course will be fully residential, with the students living in a designated community space at Adhisthana. The content of the course will be taught by a variety of teachers, including Subhuti, the president of Adhisthana. As well as a series of retreats, and intensive study of the Dharma based largely around Subhuti’s recent papers, the course will include some skills training, such as debating, writing, and giving talks, and an ongoing exploration of the arts. The group will also participate in the life of the Adhisthana community, meditating, working and worshipping together.
We are primarily looking for men mitras under the age of 40 with a high standard of spoken and written English, but commitment to practice, inspiration and enthusiasm are primary factors in deciding who will be accepted, so people over 40 will also be considered, and recently ordained Order members may also benefit from participation. There are places for 7-8 men on the course. We plan to run the course at cost price, so we hope that we can charge as little as £1500 per person all in. Any interested persons should contact Vidyaruchi by email at matt [dot] notmatt [at] yahoo [dot] co [dot] uk, or by telephone on 07982 219505.
