Now that we have been open for four months we’d like to give you a Spring update on how ‘Hidden Gems’, the new Buddhist Right Livelihood Charity Shop, is doing. The steady stream of fantastic donations have been making all the difference: from the completed works of Terry Pratchet to full length, silver taffeta ball gowns, we’ve had a rich array of donated items. A new locked cabinet is also helping us to display more expensive items more securely such as sunglasses, rolex (fake) watches and cameras. Many thanks for all these donations, please keep them coming.
The shop team are very appreciative of all our regular volunteers who have helped to ensure the shop has stayed open when our full time member of the team, Theresa, was away on retreat. Thanks to the Sangha support and volunteers we are having regular team business meetings as well as being able to develop skills in non-violent communication. It’s great being able to see how the shop venture is helping friendships across the sangha to deepen by bringing people together who wouldn’t necessarily meet. It’s starting to feel more and more like a Sangha venture.
If you’d like to get more involved in helping the shop here are some suggestions.
1. Giving out leaflets for the shop in central Croydon to help more potential customers find us. Please collect leaflets from us or the centre. We are planning a special event Saturday 26th April-more details to follow.
2. Donating any unwanted shopping bags
3. Keeping the donations coming – we are having a themes around Arts and Crafts in April so any spare wool etc would be especially appreciated.
Please keep telling friends and family about us and do pop in for a chat any time-we’d love to see you.
Thank you for all your support.

Hidden Gems is run by a team of Buddhist women, supported by the Triratna Buddhist Community (Surrey) Registered Charity No. 270460. The shop aims to support these women and provide funds that will support activity at the Centre.
